Seasons, by California emcees Cashus King, Blu, and Jeff Johnson II, is a Welcome Reminder of Life's Changes.
Rap Trio Johnson Johnson and John's Son Are Continuing their Rap Series and Bringing in the Spring Season.
Rap trio Cashus King, Blu, and Jeff Johnson II are back again with the second single, “Seasons”. Grouped under the tongue in cheek name of Johnson Johnson, and Johns’ Son, Seasons is a nod to the changing seasons of life that each of them have experienced. Introspective and insightful, the track’s cover art builds on their theme of appreciation for the past in an era obsessed with all things current.
Produced by Mr. Nobody with scratches from DJ John Doe and acclaimed emcee and producer Yamin Samali, the track starts with Cashus King reflecting on the movies and music of his era as well as the beauty of his native neighborhood of Leimert Park.
Jeff picks up the mantle next, reflecting on the beauty of the DMV and his wishes for a fulfilling season and then the track ends with Blu staring at the rap game and dissecting it from all angles.
California emcee Blu has been on quite a run lately. Just last year, he released two highly acclaimed LPs with rapper Evidence and producer Exile and in 2023, earned the distinction of being honored on the Grammy’s Wall for Hip Hop 50.
Blu has two upcoming projects in the work, one this month with storied producer August Fanon of Mach Hommy fame, and the other with emcee and producer Logic. Cashus King also has a project with August Fanon as well set to be released this year and has been working alongside Logic as well.
In addition to his work with Blu, King spent all of 2024 working alongside his fellow partner Jeff Johnson and also releasing his own music as well. Johnson is readying his own music this year, working on a solo project with producer Mr Nobody.
